From Canvas to Conversation: The Artist’s Statement
I started creating art with the initial idea to change my own life. As the process unfolded, this became my life’s project through which I am exploring the power of engaged art to push boundaries and stimulate conversations about important environmental and societal issues.
I believe the stories that I want to tell as an engaged artist are best told through figurative painting. My focus is on creating large-size acrylic figurative paintings that are both aesthetically pleasing, as well as disturbing. They are created to convey a message to the audience that will challenge their perspective on the role each of us personally plays in protecting the planet. Touching one person’s heart and mind at a time, believing it will inspire them to think and speak about it to others, is what drives me to make this kind of engaged art pieces.

COLOURS OF LIFE
Featuring 15 paintings, each piece in this series is infused with the emotions, experience and life marked by the unpredictable paths of destiny. The “Civilón” series, inspired by the true story of a bull killed during the Spanish Civil War, carries a powerful anti-war message, highlighting the senselessness of violence and destruction. Drawing parallels to the pacifist tale of Ferdinand the Bull, the paintings of Civilón symbolize the victims of human conflicts worldwide and urge us to work towards a future where peace triumphs over violence.
COLOURS OF LIFE
Presenting a series of 11 evocative acrylic landscape paintings, this collection is an intimate odyssey through mountain terrains, culminating at the iconic summit of Mount Everest. Each piece, with its distinctive style and palette, transitions from the stark realism of mountain silhouettes to the ethereal romanticism of nature’s impressions. The landscape art pieces, varied and vivid, encapsulate the multifaceted beauty and symbolism of the mountains, as intimately perceived and passionately rendered by the artist.

Journey To the Top
by Aleksandar Petkovic
Vertical lines give the canvas a sense of towering height and immersive depth attained magnificently through a minimalist color palette. Shades of blue, ethereal and fluid, seem to flow seamlessly from the sky, spilling over the landscape, evoking a sense of tranquil continuity.
CIVILON
by Aleksandar Petkovic
The contrast of the powerful bull and the delicate dancers evokes a powerful story of resilience and vulnerability. This painting encourages contemplation on how strength and fragility coexist, sparking a deeper appreciation for the beauty found in life’s most intense moments.
CIVILON

The inspiration for this piece draws from the argument that bullfighting, despite its brutality, holds an element of artistry akin to a dance performance. As Hemingway poignantly observed, “Bullfighting is the only art in which the artist is in danger…”
CIVILON
by Aleksandar Petkovic
On June 28, 1936, in Barcelona, the fourth match is underway, and three bulls have already been killed. Civilón waits for his fight in the fifth match. The silent clamor of the slaughterhouse, filled with the scent of blood and anticipation, contrasts sharply with the roaring crowd outside.
